Flag Day

I decided I needed a new flag for Flag Day, June 14, and told a couple of the kids. Then I picked out a flag on a shopping trip. But I neglected to check out the size. Or if I looked at the dimensions it didn't register. I did fall on my head, yanno.

So got home and unwrapped my new flag and thought about where on my patio I would mount the holder. To my shock the flag was big enough to cover my bed. I took it back to the store and got my money back thinking I didn't have enough time that day to go through all the flags they had on display. I could always go back to pick one up later. It was still a couple of weeks before Flag Day.

Forgot about the flag project and last week son, Rich, came over and announced he had a flag for me. He got the pole, pole holder and screws out of the package and finally brought out the flag…which was big enough to cover a king sized bed!

I told Rich I appreciated the nice thought, but could he please take it back to the store and find a small one…something about 20 inches by 38 inches would look just fine on my patio. He just kept on attaching the pole holder to the post and said, "It's not too big. You'll see. You'll love it."

It was too big, and I didn't love it. I said, "It is really nice of you to get a flag for me but please, do not put up that flag! Please."

He finally quit screwing in the screws and said Okay. He will give the flag to a neighbor. I wondered who in his neighborhood had a 30 foot flag pole?

At this writing I have two small (8" by 12-1/2") which I poked into two of the planters outside my patio door. Just right! I will leave them in for Independence Day as well. I may shop around for a larger one to fit into the pole holder, but for now I feel my patriotism is displayed adequately.
