Two birthdays, One party

They did it again. Our kids hosted a special bash for Charlie Rook's and my 80th birthday yesterday. He turned 80 last month. I'm still Seventy-Something for another week.

What a wonderful party and what wonderful friends and relatives showed up for the event! I was overwhelmed with all the attention and Charlie Rook was so happy to see friends he hadn't seen in a long time. We had a couple of party crashers but they called just before they arrived so I guess it wasn't really crashing after all.

Charlie Rook's brother, Bud, had a birthday card for me and it had just my first name on the envelope. He and Irene were planning to hand it to me at the party. Somehow it got mixed up with mail that was properly addressed and had stamps affixed, so I hope somebody at the Post Office with the name "Rosie" will enjoy the card!

The cake had three candles reading "160". I managed to blow out 160 candles in one blow! It's okay, the fire station is only a few blocks away so they could have used 160 candles.

I try to remember to thank my kids for all the wonderful things they do for us on a daily basis, but somehow my oral thank yous never seem to be enough. I hope they know how much we appreciate them and love them for all they do. I don't remember that I did anything special while they were growing up. Oh, yeah…we did show them how much fun it was to have a party.

I'm so happy they were paying attention.
