So I'm a little late!

About time I got around to this ol' blog. I had some kids nagging me about it so I waited until the first big storm of the year to get in gear.
Teri and I snuggled up for a night of television and a crock pot full of chicken and spuds and then the lights went out. The chicken was done and the potatoes were perfect. She shucked one of Rich's crabs and I made a big crab salad to go with the main dish. and we ate by lantern light. Then it was obvious that we weren't going to have any power for awhile.
After a couple of games of 31, I was tired and headed for bed. That was about 9 p.m. Teri stayed up for another hour or so and then crawled into bed.
At 5 a.m. I was wide awake and ready to get up, but didn't want to leave that snuggly warm bed. Hunger finally got the best of me. We couldn't cook anything, but planned to walk over to the nursing home next door with my electric tea kettle and beg them to heat it for us so we could at least have instant coffee or tea. We were about to get the big coats on and head out the door when the lights came on and the sirens down the hallway sounded.
Talk about timing being everything. We wasted no time in getting some coffee made and toasting a couple of muffins in the toaster oven. We never really appreciate our power until we have a night of darkness and the cold sets in. We know others were still out on the highways in Kitsap County, some stuck for many hours in traffic, trying to get home. I think about all the many homeless people in this area and hope all of them came through this first winter storm. There will be more.
We were among the lucky ones.
